How it works

What happens after you get in touch

The council question is answered before the price, and nothing is booked until you have the quote in writing and have said yes to it.

  1. 1

    Tell us about the tree

The suburb, what the tree stands near and what you would like done with it.

A woman in her back yard on the phone, looking up at a tree limb hanging over the roof
  2. 2

    Someone comes to look

A tree contractor who covers your area sees the tree, the access and whatever is underneath it.

The side path of a Queensland house leading through to a back yard with a large tree
  3. 3

    The council position is checked

Lot size, how close the tree is to the house and the mapping on the block decide whether an application comes first.

A woman at a kitchen table working on a laptop
  4. 4

    Quoted in writing

Scope, timber, stump and date set out on one page. Nothing is booked until you accept it.

A tree contractor in hi-vis and a helmet pointing up at a heavy limb, beside the home owner holding a folded sheet of paper

Questions

Before you book

Do I need council approval to take a tree down on the Sunshine Coast?

It depends on what protects the tree. Clearing is regulated by the Sunshine Coast Planning Scheme 2014, and a tree can be protected by the vegetation code, a covenant, an overlay, an easement or a condition on an old approval. Noosa Shire has its own rules again. The position is checked before a price is given.

What if a koala is using the tree?

Then the job is planned around it. The state's koala plan requires sequential clearing and having koala spotters present when koala habitat trees are cleared, whatever other exemption applies.

Who does the work?

An independent tree contractor. They see the tree, quote it and do the work, and the agreement is with them. This site takes the enquiry and passes it on, and nobody here climbs trees.

What happens to the timber and the stump?

The branches are chipped and taken away, or the trunk is cut into lengths and left if you want the firewood. The stump is ground out or cut low, and the quote says which.

Can it be pruned instead of removed?

Often, and it costs less. A tree that is only a problem where it hangs over the roof or the pool usually needs those limbs off rather than the whole tree down, and you should hear that before anyone quotes you a removal.
